The Hereford Chargers hosted the second College Jersey Mini Camp and again it proved to be a huge success.
The mini camps are the idea of Bristol Aztecs Youth head coach (and BAFCA's youth head coach of the year 2005) Ben Herod.
The mini camps were the solution to the Bristol Aztecs Youth need for more competitive football for their players, explained Herod. While coaching with Team England, Herod had discovered that so many of the kids had played just a handful (if any) competitive games in 2005 and that while the sport is growing fast again the need was there for more organised football.
The day saw nearly 60 kids in kit all receiving some of the best coaching available to youth football players in this country, said Herod. They also got the opportunity to have extended 11 on 11 scrimmaging, something that most teams do not get the opportunity to do at their own practices due to lack of numbers in every position.
While the event is run like an all-star event the scrimmage time at the end and reps in practice is dished out evenly no matter the kids ability or experience.
Herefords next practice saw 25 players in kit increasing their current roster to 30 players from just 14.
The College Jersey Mini Camp has hopefully secured the future of the team and given BYAFA's National League another full member for 2007, said Herod. This is no small part down to the excellent job of hosting the event by Hereford Chargers Head Coach Jeff Murkin and his dedicated coaching and back ground staff.
The event now moves to the south coast on March 19 in Sussex.
